Sheet Metal Curve

I am trying to figure out how to do a curve with sheet metal. I know I can
do it if I create the side profile and set my thickness as the width of the
part, but how can I do it if I have a flat piece and want to curve that?

Thanks,

use the bend tool with a large bend radius?

OK, I tried that but my piece now has multiple levels to it, much like a "U"
Shape but with flats off the top of the "U" ( -u- ) Kinda

That part isn't flat? Are you trying to bend it across the existing bends? Sheetmetal
tools won't do it. Probably have to sweep it if I am understanding what you want.

Yes, thats what I want. I wonder if this will ever be possible with
Inventor? We normally do Rails in Ideas, but they do not a have sheet metal
section so it is made as a swept profile. That group was hoping to use IV a
demonstartion tool and curving that rail was key. Inside the rail are some
teeth (to be cut later) but when they try to create the teeth they look a
little chopy. Isn't there a way to draw on a curved surface?

There are a couple of ways to "draw" on a curved surface.

In Sheetmetal, you can use the "Project" tool (flyout) to project the
flat pattern sketch of the part. During the extrude/cut operation,
select "cut across bend".

In a "normal" part, after creating a sketch, you can use the emboss
feature to "wrap" the sketch and cut or extrude it along/over a curved
face.

Another method would be to use the replace face tool by incorporating a
surface that would define the new "extrude to" face.
