Round and Round we go...Friday 01-29 Version

Got me a big drawing open, and I go to save it. There's a gazillion (give
or take a few) files that pop up in the box, but *none* of them are actually
going to be saved, because *none* of them actually need saving (this is
totally true)......

By the way, why is Inventor smart enough to know that I had in fact just
saved, so all the files are completely fresh, and yet stupid enough to put a
gazillion (give or take a few) files in the box, just to helpfully tell me
that it's not going to do anything to them? Not all the files in the
project are in the box, so what about the others? Is Inventor not going to
save them too? Evidently there are two different types of files that don't
need saving: Files that Inventor puts in the box, and files that Inventor
doesn't put in the box. Which files belong on which list has always seemed
pretty random to me.

Ok, so Inventor and I agree that my files are saved. Now I want to check
them in. I do that, and.....

Oh, I guess Inventor really *has no clue what it's talking about* when it
said none of my files needed saving.

Either that or they really did need saving, and Inventor knew all about it,
and just *wasn't going to do anything about it*.

Oh, and now the box with a gazillion (give or take a few) files is gone, so
at the point where I really could have used some help in figuring out what
file besides the drawing has mysteriously become dirty, I get nothing. By
the way, there's nothing indicated as dirty in the Vault browser, either.

This well and truly sucks.

I can't remember when this started, but it's been with us far to long. I
don't know if it has anything thing to do with file time-stamps and the
current system time. Each new release I hope it's been fixed only to find
it's still the same.

But wait, there's more!

If I merely click the X in the corner to close the window instead of being a
good citizen and trying to check in the files first (silly me!), I get a box
helpfully reminding me to do exactly what Inventor *wouldn't let me do* when
I tried to do it the right way just a few minutes ago.

I guess the very act of switching to the Vault browser and trying to check a
fileset in is somehow considered by Inventor to--just temporairly, mind
you--dirty a couple files at random.

So how about it, Autodesk? Are my files dirty or not?
