Purchased parts question

We're doing some configuration management overhauls here and I just wanted to know how people are handling machine-specific purchased parts. What I mean are things like gaskets, belts and chains whose shape is determined by a specific machine design. Where are you typically storing these types of parts?

Any feedback would be appreciated,
-A

If the likelihood of the part being used on another machine is between
zero and nil, then I would store it with the machine project data files.
If it won't be used on another machine, then its not a library part.

All my product specific parts get part numbers just
like everything else and are stored in the appropriate folders.

All generic parts (fasteners, bushings, gearboxes) have one sequential
series of numbers like 9-01234.

Each machine has a unique prefix like 1234 and any parts unique to that
machine start with that prefix.
