Power Pack

I'm a MDT 6.0 user, my question is: Does Inventor 7 include MDT Power Pack aplications ?, like screw connection, steel shapes, bearings, etc.
Thanks

Yes and no. It has standard parts (screws, steel shapes, bearing, etc) but does
not have a standard screw hole size feature. However, a wonderful IV user was
kind enough to make a small program that will automatically paste the proper
values into IV. (Called IVHoles) This has been discussed recently and hopefully,
will make it in a release or two. Definitely, do not let this hamper you from
switching to IV.

Dave:
How IV 7 works with large assemblies?, Is it really better than MDT 6.0?.

thanks Dave

Well, to be honest, I never ran MDT 6 with large assemblies, but I'm sure you
will get plenty of response from other former MDT users. From what I've heard,
it blows MDT away. But don't get rid of MDT. It is useful for helping to convert
file formats and surfaces.

It is not easy to get rid of MDT when you are subscribing on Inventor
series.
You'll get the doorstop edition of MDT with every IV-box you get 😉

Nobody forces you to install MDT...;-)
I keep MDT for surfacing purposes only until Iv is up to speed on this...(!)

Dave,

When running tasks IV definitely is designed for (huge assemblies), MDT is
about 2...10 times faster when doing such basic things like file open, local
edit, grafic manipulation, view generation,...

So, maybe when Adesk completely ceases the evolution of MDT, and keeps on
focussing all it's strength on IV, maybe in a few years both will be about
equal in speed.

Until this bright, but far future, I'm glad we get both in one box!

Kind of funny, the other day I had to go revise a assembly in MDT. After I was done I got
to thinking about it and the assembly opened probably a little quicker than a similar one
in Inventor would have, but then I made my change, hit a button and updated everything in
the assembly, everything in the scenes and everything in the drawing views in a matter of
seconds. I was kind of blown away how quick it was. To do that in Inventor would have
involved easily 10x as much time especially since you have to open separate files.

But then speed in certain areas isn't everything.

I can do many other things like model quicker and more inter-related assemblies in
Inventor in less time than MDT. I can see what I am doing better with the improved
graphics, I can manipulate the model quicker and easier etc.

Both programs have high points and low points, you just have to figure out which one works
the best in the areas that are important to you.
