Perpendicular hole thru a cylinder.......

I can get a hole thru the cylinder using a work plane tangent to it, but the hole appears round on the cylinder surface, not elliptical as it should. Any thoughts on how to correctly model this.....TIA......

If you looking directly at the hole, shouldn't it look round (it is round
after all).

If your cylinder has one of the main origin workplanes central to it
(if not, you can define a new workplance through the center),
use that for a sketch, do slice graphics to see your sketch, then
when you extrude or cut the hole, pick the option to do it in both
directions and thru all.

Bob, thanks for the reply. Yes, I have done as you suggested. Now,
say I want to counterbore one end of the hole....from the outside surface in.......

For that I would offset a plane from the center to a distance slightly
beyond the tangent distance (one of my preferences to avoid some
issues I have seen before). If it's a part thats going to vary, you should
be able to tie the offset into a parameter formula.
