Partial Section

I want to section just the crankcase of a motor in an assembly. Does anyone know a way to do this?

Hi agpksrock3,

One approach is to create a new assembly and place the motor assembly into it as a subassembly. Then set your selection filter to select just parts and select the crankcase. Then right click and choose Isolate. Once the crankcase is isolated create a sketch and then use it to create the section cut. When done you can right click and choose Undo Isolate to bring back the other parts.

This could be done in the motor assembly rather than creating a new assembly, but the extra assembly level is often preferred to separate the section illustration from the original assembly.

I hope this helps.

That worked well, but do you know a way this can be done without destroying the constaints in this area?

Hi agpksrock3,

If you're placing the motor assembly in a sub-assembly and creating the section cut as an assembly feature at that level, it should not impact your assembly constraints.

I hope this helps.
