Hi,
complete newbie to Inventor, so be "to the point" with answers please...
See attachment. This is my first tryout with inventor. I wanted to let the cylindrical part rotate around is's axis, having the bent rod connected to one of the four holes at one side, and the other side of the rod moving along the slot in the plate.
The slotted plate is grounded. Then I tried to tell Inventor that the yellow axis of the cylindrical part has to be grounded too, and the part should rotate around that axis. I cannot find any way to do this.
I managed the other end of the rod to follow the slot (after I had to make the slot a surface), but only the center point stays into the slot, so that needs to be fixed too.
Does anybody have a link to a youtube tutorial that explains this rotation-translation issue?
I have watched all the tutorials within Inventor, but they don't help me out...

You will need to include all of your data set, not just the assembly file, in order for us to see your files. Do a Pack and Go on the top level assembly and then zip it up to upload here.

A part that is grounded does not have any Degrees of Freedom.
You might turn on the DOF symbols to help in seeing what can move and how it can move.
Having trouble to "pack and go" : see printscreens in attachment
I have three ipt files and one iam file.
When I start pack and go, I get the notice that the component location of the iam file is not in the "active project file" When I proceed, already 179 files are selected (none visible in the listview at the botton). When I click "Search Now", it adds my 4 files to the listview, and tells me there are 183 files to pack and go...
The total size is >30MB, which I can never compress under the 1.5MB upload limit for the forum.
How do I add the component location of the iam file to the "active project file"?

There is no reason you need to use Pack and Go.
You already posted the iam, simply attach each of the 3 part files individually.
Ok, here's the zip with the iam files and the three ipt files.
I hope you can help me out.
The bent rod that goes through the cylindrical part, should be removed ...
Your sketches are not constrained.
This indicates that you have not had training or that your training was flawed.
Open the attached assembly.
Drag the cylinder.
Expand the cylinder (Tutorial) and right click on Drive This and unSuppress.
Right click again on Drive This constraint and select Drive This, then click Play.
Reverse engineer the constraints that I used.
I recommend you read this
http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/SkillsUSA%20University.pdf
and go through these
http://inventortrenches.blogspot.com/p/inventor-tutorials.html
The path for the rod sweep is 2D - use 2D sketch for 2D geometry.
As you already guessed, I have had no training at all (except for the built in video tutorials, which I think are too fast for new users).
I will study your solution step by step and follow the links you provided.
Many thanks JDMather.
