For Single CPU use.... whose Mboard is among the better performers?

For those of you running dual CPUs -
When it comes to running dual CPUs, what motherboard choices
have you found and any comments about your experience or quality of the
board?

Bill,

Asus have a new board based on the new NVIDIA Nforce2 chipset which has dual
channel memory (when using 2 DDR's) Which should be a great performer. Also
running a new Athlon 2400 or 2600 XP will give awesome bang for buck.

If money is no object then Intel is just about to unleash its new 3gig
processor with hyper threading which will be interesting to see how that
helps speed up Invenotr with large drawings. Basically the hyperthreading
CPU is seen as 2 CPU's under win2k and XP. Not the same as 2 true CPU's but
could be a boost all the same. Coupled with 1066mhz RDRAM this sytem would
truley fly.... but at a cost..

I have a 1+ year old Tyan mb, and I can't say I really push it, but I have
no complaints with it.

Ditto. I have the same MoBo as Kent and it's the most trouble free
motherboard I've ever used.

There are a ton of motherboard sites out there - a good review site to check
out is www.anandtech.com it isn't CAD centric but it has some good
information about stability and drivers

I have always bought Soyo mobos. They're great to work with - no jumpers -
and fairly inexpensive. I posted before that I prefer to stick with Intel
chipsets, by I think that's just personal preference. I know people that
swear by VIA chipsets.

Bill thenI would lean towards an Athlon XP. I just built a 2200+ on an BAIT
KT400 motherbard. As long as you get a nice case (at least 3 fans, Good
power supply (~400watt) and quality RAM (I used Corsair XMS 2x512) then it
should be fine. My new system has been rock solid since day 1 (INV 5.3).
I do wish I had know the N-Force2 MB's were just around the corner though...
