I'm trying to delete a material called "Generic" from a part.. I can't delete the material (delete greyed out) I try to add another material to the document and I still can't delete the "Generic" material... I added a new material from the drop down box at the top... It says the correct material but when i open the material library dialog again it says "generic" instead of the proper material name that I selected... Is this a bug? See picture.
Please help!!!
Thanks..
Why do you need to delete the Generic material even if it is not assigned to the part?
I think if you right click and Assign Material you can then right click on the Default and Delete.
You don't indicate what version of Inventor you are using.
I don't see your attachment?
It is assigned to the part. The problem is that I want to get ride of the gerneric material... It's causing some problems with FEA...
Why are you trying to run FEA with Default material (water density) rather than Assigning a valid material for FEA?

You can add several materials - did you Assign any of them before trying to delete the De
As far as I know you can delete it as soon as it´s not assigned to anything anymore.
Well its simply not working.. and the "generic" material seems to be taking on the characteristics of another material. This is strange. Any other suggestions?
Attach file here that exhibits this behavior.
Do you see the same behavior if you create start a new file and create a simple cube?
Have you rebooted the machine?
All SP and Updates installed?
I could not delet the Default in 2013.
I am not at my 2014 machine to try there.
Does it go away if you purge it from the file?
