Making Copper Wire Mesh with Inventor 2012

I ams using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012 to design an atomic physics experiment. One feature of the apparatus is a series of stainless steel rings, each approximately 1/2 inch in diameter. Across one surface of each of these rings will be stretched a mesh of copper wire, woven perpendicularly at a density of 70 lines per inch. Is there a way to produce this mesh in Inventor? Thanks.

Hi Mike, You have 2 options to chose from that can accomplish this. The "right" one depends on your needs

1) You can model the mesh.

2) You can use a texture with transparent pixels to have a flat "sheet" appear as a screen : http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Inventor/enu/2012/Help/0073-Autodesk73/0285-Work_Env285/0292-Styles_a29...

Yes and no....

You can simulate the appearance of a mesh, and adjust the density, but creating an actual mesh would be both labor and memory intensive.  Here's an image and a 2012 part to play with.
