Locking view in .aim turns off part face properties-Bug?

When I lock a view in an asy, a part that has one face changed to black appearance (part View Rep-"Alum Polished & Black" )  reverts to the overall appearance of "Aluminum, Polished". So I have to leave this Asy View unlocked. Note that the View Rep in the part is locked

I'm finding it difficult to determine why this is happening. The whole Assembly View Rep/Part View Rep/ face propertiy hierarchy is a head scratcher.

We make a lot of parts where 1 or more specific faces get painted "Black" with an overall finish like "White Paint" or "Aluminum, Polished". These are saved as View Reps in the part & the representations turned on in the assembly views as needed per applicable Asy View Reps.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

I’ve looked at this from your description and I think I may not be following your outline completely. I will say that your correct in property override can be a challenge. Would it be possible to get a assembly file with the part you showed in you attached image files so I can get a better handle on what you want to accomplish?
