ASUS MB

SLOT 1 P3-650

640 MB SDRAM

40GB 7200 RPM HD

PNY QUADRO 750 XGL

Performed multiple iterations of the benchmark to gage impact of various
factors:
1. Display of statistics

2. Driver, 29.42, 40.41, 41.03

3. OpenGL settings, default versus "mods" - see below*

4. Registry tweaks, LOD and giftwrap (suggested 7 vs 10 and 0.1 vs
0.3, respective)

5. Powering 1 vs 2 monitors (app runs in 1 monitor anyway)

See post in CF of Excel worksheet including chart.

AVERAGE RESULTS

Shaded = 9.0 FPS
Hidden = 3.9 FPS
Wireframe = 7.0 FPS
Multiple Windows = 9.9 FPS
Average = 7.4 FPS

Short of a X-squared statistical analysis, draw your own conclusions.
I did not note any significant difference in all the factors, including
driver version.

This is from Ole Christer.

The results that I have posted is taken from the file after a clean system
start.
I've posted a file in CF showing my setup for display. Furthermore this is
my settings in other sections:

Hardware set to "Full optimazation"
Graphic Card is => Creative 3DBlaster4 MX 420 with Nvidia driver 40.72. No
changes in the drivers and no Rivatuner/softQuadro changes made.

Set the resolution to 1024/768 and Colours to 16 bit.

This setup has proven to be rather quick and stable on my system.

I've tryed the SoftQuadro but it changed my card into a Quadro 200/400NVS,
wich is a card for multiple monitors. So i turned of the changes and
installed clean Nvidia drivers.

Regards

Ole Christer

Tested this benchmark again today since some have troubles beliving in my
results.
Todays results are as follows:

Inventor6 Grapics Benchmark
Display set to "Rough"
02.12.02 11:08:32

Shaded = 36.5 FPS
Hidden = 10.8 FPS
Wireframe = 72.5 FPS
Multiple Windows = 42.8 FPS
Average = 40.7 FPS

Inventor6 Grapics Benchmark
Display set to "Smooth"
02.12.02 11:13:24

Shaded = 30.3 FPS
Hidden = 7.4 FPS
Wireframe = 69.4 FPS
Multiple Windows = 32.5 FPS
Average = 34.9 FPS

No alteration on my setup at all. Ref. another post in this tread and in CF
for info on setup.

Ole,
The only real difference your setup might have is the resolution of
1027x786, while most CAD users run 1280x1024.

We lease our workstations for 30 months, mine is going in June. Amazing how far behind it has gotten, PIII @ 1GHz with a Wildcat 4110. The results were pretty dismal:

Shaded = 10.8 FPS
Hidden = 5.7 FPS
Wireframe = 12.9 FPS
Multiple Windows = 12.2 FPS
Average = 10.4 FPS

I think I qualify for the worst ever.

Shaded 2.4
Hidden 1.7
Wireframe 6.0
Multiple Windows 1.4
Average 2.9

Running Dell Latitude C800 1GHz PIII 512M ram ATI Rage 128 M4 running at
1600x1200
Have to use conservative omptimizations, else I get video corrruption across
the top third of all Inventor windows.

Wow! Perhaps you need to find a way to squeak in a Ti4200 or something they are cheap and pretty darn quick. 109 bucks for the 64mb version. - Rich

This is a laptop, so i am not sure if it can be
changed. I asked Dell about upgrading it with more memory or a different card
and they said no it wasnt possible, but then again I have found that most tech
support people know less than I do. I am just trying to get a new laptop, and I
am on the list for an upgrade, but they are reluctant since I just got this
laptop just over a year ago. I Hope, I Hope, I Hope. Luckily I am a developer
and dont use Inventor for any serious work, only to test my applications,
so speed is not too much of an issue...until my application start getting
bigger and more complicated.

I win!

Duel AMD MP 2200, gForce 4 Ti4200Pro, 3140 drivers, 1152x864 High color (32 bit)

Shaded = 30.5 FPS
Hidden = 13.1 FPS
Wireframe = 122.6 FPS
Multiple Windows = 35.1 FPS
Average = 50.3 FPS

Inventor is set to Full Optimization. No registry tweaks. I replaced the stock fan and heat sinks with a high efficiency fan set up and added heat sinks to the memory. Flash

It me again.
Today I did a test on Engine.iam again. This time I used the proposed
Default settings from Andy Shelter together with "Full Optimization".
Display set to
1280x1028 and 16 bit Colors on my Creative 3DBlaster4 MX420 card.
Results are now:

Inventor6 Grapics Benchmark

03.12.02 09:50:16

Shaded = 24.9 FPS
Hidden = 7.8 FPS
Wireframe = 12.2 FPS
Multiple Windows = 28.1 FPS
Average = 18.3 FPS

Based on this I have to say that by changing the default settings to what I
have increases speed and handling of IV dramatically.
My settings are based upon a document by Richard Rankin called "Working with
Large Assemblies in Autodesk Inventor".

Since the changes are just cosmetic and don't inflict on my work I suggest
that others try this.

Holy Cow Leo! What driver are you using?

I'm surprised that the main processor is such a factor.

My guess is that a faster processor is going to process the VBA calls faster. Just like
the code I wrote on the other benchmark the VBA calls take up much of the time and
introduce the most inaccuracy.
