Inventor to Autocad 2000 then to 3D Faces

I created a model in Inventor then saved it as an "SAT" file. I inserted this model into Autocad 2000 model space by doing an "Insert, ASIC File" command. Doing a "List" on the surfaces show that they are "3D Models" as expected. Now I need to convert these to "3D Faces". I tried two consective explode commands but that did not do it. Any suggestions on how to get this done? I'm going to post the same in the Autocad group.

Thanks,

Michael Miller

May I ask why you want 3D faces?

If a facet model (for CAM app?) is what you are after, try exporting as STL
from IV or MDT (probably more control).

.... 3DS out of MDT might be a better deal than STL. Sorry, I don't keep up
with it.

I am using a secondary analysis program that requires 3D faces. Sound familar?

Do you need quad elements or can you work with tri's? If quads are required,
I don't think there's an Adesk solution other than modeling it in Acad / MDT
as polyface mesh objects (?). 3DS back into MDT will give you tri 3d faces
which can then be exported via dxf (I think) or iges as either 3d faces or
planar NURBS surfaces (look at the iges export options).

There is no direct route (that I'm aware of) from an ACIS or NURBS
surface definition to a faceted (3D Face objects) definition.

Export out of Acad 2000/ save as 3d Studio then Instert / 3d Studio and it will come in as 3D Faces.
