Inventor hanging lots after 2012 sp1 install

we are finding that inventor hangs lots since installing sp1, especially when starting a new part and also when switching between window tabs, (from one part to another)

I updated an ilogic rule in our template part but it is still happening on one of the machines that has not got the latest template from vault...

this is getting very tedious

Hi Stephen,

Which Graphics Setting are you using? You can find your Graphics Setting from Tools --> Options --> Application Options --> Hardware.

Thanks,

Debbie Lou

Hi, Stephen

From your attached screenshot, i see your graphics setting is set as Performance mode, can you try to set it to Compatibility mode for double check ?

no, still hanging...  If you switch between tabs it works ok, but then if you work on one for a while and try to switch back it hangs again.  new parts are a lot faster still

Hi Stephen,

I tried your scenario in my Inventor2012 and not reproduce the hang problem. below is my hardware configuration:

Operating System: Win 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1 64 bit

  Processor: Intel(R) Xeon (R) CPU E5630 @2.53GHz

  RAM: 12GB

  Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 580

I suppose the memory is used up when it hangs, you can check it in Task Manager, also check your virtual memory settings in System Properties and how much available space there is on the disk drive where the paging file is located.  Both of these things can cause you to run out of memory space even on a 64 bit OS.

Kevin Li

Stephen,

You mentioned an iLogic rule in your first post.  To see if iLogic is involved in the performance problem, you could temporarily unload the iLogic add-in, in Tools -> Add-Ins.  Click on iLogic, uncheck the Load Automatically option, and then exit and re-start Inventor.

Another silly long shot, but hanging on file opening reminds me of when we had some bad shortcuts (lnk files) and paths pointing to non-existent locations, so the program (AutoCAD in our case actually) would vainly search the entire network for a file or location that was no longer available.  But why that would suddenly happen with installing an SP I can't explain - unless something else changed on the network during that brief window.

Well, I uninstalled SP1 and everything is back to normal...  I can only conclude that the SP screwed something up, there must be other people having the same problem???

Is there a hotfix, just for the select other tool?  I got used to it sort of working again with the SP

Stephen,  I ran SP1 for about a week and never experienced any hangups.  My specs are below.  I have, however, uninstalled due to a few issues I found that were too annoying to work around.
