Inventor freezes when loading assembly drawing

When loading a large file, such as an asssembly file, if I try to switch to another program or even if an e-mail pop-up window occurs, Inventor will freeze and has to be ctrl-alt-deleted to end the task. The display of the Inventor graphics window will turn white wherever any other program's graphics were. I have done the "help->graphics card thing (lightning bolt). I have a Nvidia Quadro 4 750GL, 1G RAM, Xp Professional SP1. Left the "Applications Settings" blank. What else is there?

Check task manager ctrl alt del.
If Inventor is still using CPU and memory but says it is not responding then it is still working. Could this be the case?
