Inventor crashing when placing base view in an idw.

I'm having a problem with Inventor 2011 professional on a 64Bit machine.  I can make any size assembly with no problem but as soon as I go to make an idw the program crashes and shuts down.  It doesn't matter if the base view is one part or 1000 parts as soon as I go to place the view inventor shuts down and I get an error.  Any ideas?????

and the error is???

provide more detail, so far all I understand is the problem.

what have you tried so far?

have you tried using different IDW templates or just the one?

What OS are you running?

what graphics card and driver

what service pack of Inventor?

etc.

Similar problem here. One user out of dozens crashes when inserting a view into a new idw.  Also crashes when user tries to edit a vew in an existing idw.

What we have tried:

  1. Verified the user was an administrator on the machine.
  2. Reinstalled Inventor
  3. Copy templates from a working machine
  4. Loaded new project file from a working machine
  5. Changed save location to folder on local machine
  6. Installed Autodesk Inventor - 2011 SP2a x86 (30.953 MB)

None of the above resolved the issue.

Still looking for solution.

Are all of the machines the same setup and hardware?  Are Inventor settings the same on all machines?  Any hardware problems ruled out?.... that's all I got.  Good luck!

Some are 32 bit and others are 64. This particular machine is 32 bit. We do have other 32 bits with same configuration that run fine.

Windows 7 operating system, 4 GB RAM.

The hardware is not new, it was upgraded from an XP operating system prior to installling Inventor 2011.

Is it possible that the video is causing a problem?

Does it happen on this machine with a different user logged in?  Some weird stuff can happen when something in the registry or other areas of a user profile get corrupted.

Sorry for the delayed response, I was out of the office and then the user was out of the office.

Upon testing this issue with another user, we see the same results.

The second user did however get an additional error on first attempt to start Inventor

Error:

Problems encountered while initializing the application

Cannot open SOFTWAREkey Software in registry

Cannot open SOFTWAREkey Software in registry

Assembly Modeling Data Preferences cannot be read.

Not sure if this indicates a registry problem.

For the second user, it appears that they do not have sufficient priviliges to access the registry, so that needs to be remedied before they can really test the original problem.

To update this an close the request, this issue has been resolved.

The solution was a graphics change inside Inventor.

In Options, click on the Hardware tab

Set the Graphics Setting to Compatibility

Thanks for you assistance.

I have this same problem with Inventor 2016. The fix listed doesn't work though.

Any ideas?
