Inventor Vs Catia Surfaces Manipulation

Hello,

Is there (in Inventor or InventorFusion) a function like the "Surface Wrapping" that exists in Catia?

Substantially is a function that allow the user to "deform" a surface or a group of surfaces.

First, you select the surface(s) in object of the deformation.

After, you select a "start" reference surfce (for example a plane)

Then you select a "destination" reference surface (for example a spherical , or a non-plane surface)

So, the object surface undergo to a transformation equal to the difference between the two object surgaces (start-destination).

In clamps and fixtures modeling, is a very important function.

Thanks!

Ok,

I think I can effectively find something useful in these tutorials.

Scale or offset functions, applied to surfaces may give acceptable results.

I need to deepen the surfaces manipulation on Inventor.

Thanks.

Also look into the Alias Editing tools in Inventor Fusion.

You can bounce back and forth between Inventor and Fusion keeping history for the basic geometry and freeform editing for the organic geometry (within limits).

Right.

Effectively, being the environment of Inventor and InventorFusion, very different from the Catia's,

There may exist different ways to get similar results.

Some "global deformation" tool. Possibly parametric.

P.S. I didn't attached the file because I've not yet started modeling it in Inventor.

I first tryied to know if there where a viable method.

Thanks.

Hi

You can built your surface with Inventor, don't stitch anyones in Inventor and  after import these surfaces with Alias Design

seach in the Alias help LATTICE RIG. it's a greatest tool in Alias

with this tool you can deform, twist, etc with  very easy workflow

Hi.

A question: you refer to Alias as a stand-alone application?

If I have correctly understood, there are some part of Alias integrated in InventorFusion.

The procedure you suggested me, must be performed with the stand-alone version of Alias... Is correct?

I really need to better understand the Inventor environment and related applications.

And if (and when) the parametric relationship will be broken. (passing objects from one application to another)

Thanks!

Hi

Yes it's stand alone version included with Inventor 2012 suite

the association is not broken from alias to inventor but Inventor to Alias i think is broke

In Inventor you import .wire file.

To use the limited Alias tools in Inventor Fusion right click on the feature in Inventor where you wish to insert the freeform feature and select Edit Form.

Of course the full Alias has much more freeform functionality.

But there is quite a bit you can do without ever leaving Inventor with a bit of effort.
