Inventor Sheet metal question for a trash can?

pattern.jpg

See this pattern I have drawn up to go around this trash can? My question can you draw the the trash can flatten it cut this pattern out and refold it and will the pattern still be there in the round? I tried and it hasn't been successful is there any way I can do this? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums,

This is the AutoCAD forum.

You will want to go over to the Inventor forum;

To answer your question, yes.  You can start with a flat sheet, do any modifications to it and then roll it up.

Thank you. Can you walk me through it if its not to much to ask? I'm kind of new with the sheet metal process.

Can you attach your *.ipt file here?

Your sketch appears to be a pattern - so first thing I would do is delete the extra geometry.

You might also investigate the Windows Snipping tool for doing screen captures.

Simply go to the Windows Start Globe in lower left corner of screen and type Snipping in at the Search Programs prompt.

My goal is to get that pattern to go around the trash can and I thought it would be possible to do it with sheet metal but i'm new with the sheet metal process.

You can use Emboss /Wrap to Face in 3d model tab

While someone is preparing a solution - have you installed all Service Packs for r2103?  (the correct answer is No.  You might want to do this)

But embossing it I won't be able to cut it out of the 3d object right? Is that my only option?

Emboss can be set to Cut. (Engrave)

There are several other options as well.

As JD said you can choose different way you can emboss until cut throght the part, you can unfold, cut and then fold, etc.
