I have searched the forums for similar issues but have not seen any posts on this, so maybe it is just me.
I was excited about 2014, couldn't wait to see how wonderfull the rendering improvements would be.
I fired it up and rendered something.... ugg... that can't be right. The renderings looked awfull see attachment.
I tried this on two different machines with differing video systems. (latest drivers on both)
Played with every Inventor video option. (all 2 or 3 of them anyway)
Is this just me or is anyone else having similar issues.
They do render faster, but what good does that do, when they look like... well... (Censored)
Should I export everything as a step and send it back to 2013 for rendering?
Thanks.

Has anyone filed a request with support yet? It's sounding like it's something they should be able to reproduce.
@Blair wrote:Data base relationship is maintained. You only need to update the components that have changed. This is done when you re-open the file in Showcase.
You can create "Alternate" colors, positions, slice/section planes.
How do you only update the changed components? When I press "I" and bring up the menu where you'd update, it seems to re-load everything. It keeps the textures and such that I've edited, but it's not any quicker loading the files than if I just send the stuff straight from Inventor.

Any 3D model will take a while to load. It should only need to "convert any new files. I haven't had much Showcase work done in 2014, but very little, if anything has changed in 2014 other than incorporate the SP's into the base and change the splash screen (in my opinion).
I am relieved that the issue is not exclusive to me.
As interesting as showcase sounds, nothing is faster than hitting the realistic button and then raytrace 🙂
So i wait patiently for an update.

Compliments to Autodesk on the quality of rendering you have bundled into Inventor over the last few releases.
It is a greatly appreciated feature.

To me it definetly seems to be something wrong with AIP2014 since:
- I use the same computer with the same grahics card and graphic settings.
- Press "realistic" in AIP2013 and the raytracing looks fine.
- Press "realistic" in AIP2014 and raytracing produce a pic full with speckles (see pic below).

Has anyone filed a support request on this, yet? I haven't installed 2014 yet, or I'd do it myself.
I have the same results here.

Here is what I got from Inventor 2012.
And here is what I got from Inventor Professional 2014 with the same settings and files on the same workstation.
I was able to get rid of the blue patch by switching from shaded and back to realistic.
The blue patch might have been your ground plane, was that switched on?
A tip for those who like the on the fly renderer.
Have you ever tried to change from interactive mode to good or best, only to have a part in your way?
Hold down "Esc" and select the new rendering mode. It prevents you from grabbing the part instead.

"The blue patch might have been your ground plane, was that switched on?"
No, it was my back ground bleeding through. It disappeared by switching to shaded and back to realistic.
Hi tsreagan,
Thanks for reporting this issue to us!
I can understand the problem and try to reproduce it locally. Would you mind sharing your dataset to us? You can send it to my email address LiSHuANG.LU@AUTODeSK.COM if you are fine to share.
Thanks,
-Lisa
I just start up 2014 and created a cube, render it, and it looks as it does (speckled), there really is no data set to deal with. Every single model I open and render has the same issue, doesn't matter what format, materials, or content.
Per your request, I have attached a screen shot and the part file that was used to generate it.

Hello LishuangLu
There is something more than the appearance of the material going on here.
In the picture below (as I posted earlier), you can notice a difference in the ground shadows eventhough the light environment settings are exactly the same for both renderings.

It does look better with ray tracing off.
I don't have this issue in studio.

Transparent Slate Blue was the transparent material I used.
Old Wharehouse was the environment, with no background image.
