Individual drawings for each family instance

Am I the only crazy guy out here who needs to make an individual drawing of a particular model instance??

As a simplified example, let's say I have an "i-part" of a flat head screw. The only thing that changes as a variable is the length of the screw. I should be able to make one drawing of the "base" model, and then save off copies of that drawing that refer only to one particular instance of the model. Then as I make changes to the base model, all of my drawings will reflect the change.

I could also have a parameter named "drawing_number", for example...this would be reflected in the title block of all of my copied drawings. Does this make sense to anyone out there?

I have something in mind for family of parts
documentation. Perhaps at some point it will be possible to discuss it with some
of you folks.

As to the drawing number... There are several
drawing properties available that you could use instead of making you own
parameter to achieve it. And, those properties are able to be put in the drawing
and update themselves when the drawing is opened.

Why is it not possible to start a dialog on it right now? Please let me know if my question is not clear. I am talking about having one drawing that specifically documents one instance of a family. And by making a copy of that one drawing, I would like to save it off and have it now refer to another instance of the family, and all of the dimensions will forever reflect only that one instance. This way I can have one dedicated drawing for each instance.

Please allow me to butt in. I would be happy with a
table or charted drawing where you could stick a chart on a drawing with the
variables that the ipart is controlled by in this chart. This chart would be
live. You could show dims from the model on several views of the parent in the
IDW. So you have a record of all instances of an ipart family, all on one sheet.
The more advanced it gets, the closer to hand drawings it gets. Or what you
said.
