Hello,
I am trying to change the materials that are assigned to a STEP file I imported to a different "default" so I can then change a few of the surfaces individually. Is there a way to change the entire part's materials to one material that I select? When I try only one "base" highlights at a time and I can't select the entire part at one time. I am using AutoDesk Inventor 2011 Professional.

Do you have a multi-body solid? Post screen shot.

HI Again,
I am putting it in as a pdf file, but it has 139 "bases". The browser window doens't show up when I copy it to pdf... So anyhow, the creator of the file made the part in 139 different pieces I guess? I don't know much about solid works.
thnx!

What does this have to do with SolidWorks?
Are you in an Inventor Assembly or in a Part.
I'm assuming a part file with mult-body solids.
I assume you want that as an Assembly - but maybe not.
You could Combine in the part file multiple solid bodies if desired.
You could change your selection filter (perhaps to By Feature) and see if that helps (window select).
I guess more information is needed on what your end goal is.
You might check out this - http://au.autodesk.com/?nd=class&session_id=3056
but it is a little out of date for Inventor 2012.
Can you zip and attach the original STEP file here?

Print Screen upper right corner of keyboard.
Start>All Programs>Accessories>PaintCtrl V to paste image.
Save as *.png and attach here (should show the browser.

Ok I meant STEP, not solidworks. But here is another file that is similar to my first that I also want to change the color of the part and it is also not working. I just want to turn the entire thing sea blue, and I can't seem to do it!
Thnx!
That one is easy.
Expand the Sold Bodies folder.
Right click on the Verrundung82 node and select Properties.
Check Strip Overrides and select the desired color.
