Icons Inventor 2010 in XP and Windows 7

I work in two machines with windows XP and 7 and in both the icons for all types of files of Inventor are the same. How can I solve this without editing registry?

Thanks in advanced

Try here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/178915-file-extension-type-icon-change.html

It's listed for Vista, but it should be the same for current Windows O/S

Thanks for sharing how to make changes in regedit but know I need the icons themselves... Does anyone can share them so I can put in my machine?

Your icons are going to appear the same no matter what operating system you are using. Not sure why you would want them different from OS to OS. Consistency, it's a beautiful thing. Smiley Wink

I guess I misunderstood you the first time.

Have you tried manually changing the icon association from the 'File Type' tab in Windows Explorer's folder options (XP)? (I still haven't figured out how to change these in Win 7)

.iam uses: \Inventor\Bin\AmRes.Dll to get it's icon.

.ipt: Bin\PmRes.Dll

.idw Bin\DlRes.Dll

Possible, one may need to repair Inventor to re-register the icons. Not sure what you have done to both your XP and Win7 systems to cause this issue.

Make sure you are logged in with Administrator privileges, all Anti-Virus is disable/turned off, in Win7 the UAC slider is off (slide to lowest setting).

hi, didn't work, but uninstaled and instaled again in WIN 7 and it was fine until some days ago that turned again to same icons for diferent fyle type... it's a mess finding what you need when all as the same icon...

Hi, try next:

in XP you need to go to Folder Options,File TAB type, in Win 7 is different: Start, Default Programs, Associate a file type ..., so in new window find an extension (ex. iam) and reassociated with the program (ex. Inventor 2010). Do the same for all extensions and should be ok! That's all.

Some more infos for fun :

Icons for Inventor are defined in the registries :

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Inventor.DrawingDocument\DefaultIcon]

The same for Inventor.PartDocument, Inventor.AssemblyDocument

Value should be :

="C:\\Program Files\\Autodesk\\Inventor 2012\\Bin\\FwUIRes.dll,4" for drawings

="C:\\Program Files\\Autodesk\\Inventor 2012\\Bin\\FwUIRes.dll,0" for parts

="C:\\Program Files\\Autodesk\\Inventor 2012\\Bin\\FwUIRes.dll,1" for IAMs

This info is valid for 2012. I did not checked for 2010
