IV2008 - Derived iMate Issue

See attached picture.

This part had a suppressed composite iMate called Origin of its own.
This part then derived a composite iMate (also called Origin) from a
SkeletonPart.

The result is a big mess!

Inventor added the 3 derived Flush iMates to the existing (suppressed)
composite iMate.
It then added an empty node (the derived composite iMate, but without the
Flushes).

If I delete the empty nodes, Inventor will crash on the second delete.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a new part
2) Create a composite iMate called "Origin", which is made of 3 flush
constraints on the origin planes
3) Save this part as "Skeleton Part"
4) Close this part

5) Create a new part
6) Create a composite iMate called "Origin", which is made of 3 flush
constraints on the origin planes
7) Suppress this composite iMate
8) Save this part as "Part"
9) Use Derive Component to derive the Skeleton Part, make sure you derive
all the iMates

The result will look like the attached picture.

Deleting the composite iMates will result in a crash.

Teun,

I'm not able to reproduce this. Please keep in mind my build is newer than what you have. I' also aware of a fix in this area. Not this specific problem but a related one that might have cured this.

Also I can reproduce the crash in your file. With the new build users won't be able to get to this state. Thanks.

Hi Shekar,

With your files, I can't reproduce the crash. I bet they are original IV2008
files.
My files are from our migrated template files, maybe that's the problem.
I have instructed our users that, when they derive iMates, they should look
very carefully at the browser to see if everything is OK.

Maybe some other Inventor user can test my dataset (be warned, Inventor
might crash).

Thanks,

Shekar,

I do want to get back on this subject.

"Please keep in mind my build is newer than what you have"

You got it backwards...

MY build is the current build (IV2008 SP1), so this problem exists for us.
We don't have a "newer" build, so our assemblies are crashing!

Please install the original RTM version of IV2008, apply the official
released SP1 and try again.

Let me know if you are seeing the behaviour I describe.

Thanks

Teun,

The build I tested on was IV2008 + SP1 + more fixes (that you don't have). The problem is fixed in our newer builds.

If I take the RTM version and apply the SP1 it will probably crash. I was able to reproduce the crash on your dataset. That tells me that there is an issue in RTM version + SP1. What this means is once you have a new SP (or a major release) you will have to rederive such composite iMates to make sure it dosen't create those empty nodes on which crashes are happening.

Thanks

Thanks for getting back!

I will wait for SP2 (or hotfix).
