IV 10. Sheet Formats?

I made an IDW..
I set up 15 sheets in it..
I re-Named Each sheet with the various part name of the part that will be on the sheet..
I saved the IDW in my Template folder...

I clicked New.. Selected thhis IDW template..

ALL 15 sheets are there.. But the Sheet names are NOT.
The Sheets are now named Sheet 1, Sheet 2, etc.
What the heck?? I had them all set to "Exclude form count"
But they are all now set back to default..

Ok.. So then i tried this..
I set up a Sheet again.. Named it..
Saved it as a Sheet format...
The format says the sheets Name... (In drawing resource)
I right click it.. Select new sheet..
Sure enough.. A new sheet appears...
but the sheet name is NOT the same.. it's back to Sheet 1, Sheet 2, etc...

Why Doesn't it retain sheet names?????? Message was edited by: rimo625

??... Add in..
There may be an add in for it..
But that's not the point..

Why doesn't it work as it is? Without an add in to fix?
If IV was just not designed to do this thats one thing? Pretty stupid but thats my Op..
If it's a bug or Oversight.. Then Adesk Needs to Fix it.. NOT someone else making add ins to Fix Adesk short comings with the release..
Or maybe it's one of them things.. Started to Do it.. Suits want it released now.. Finished or Not... I guess that's the "Half baked thing"

Well anyway...
Just another thing with IV.. Just makes me scratch my head and wonder WHY???

Currently, the Rename Sheet command in my addin only
renames the sheet to add size information.
This helps you know the sheet size without having to execute
Edit Sheet to find out the size when you forget.

There is also a Rename View command that currently renames the selected view(s)
to reflect the base part/asm name. Then turning the view label on acts as
a sort of Part Label for details.

As an aside to the OP's problem with sheet names, I don't think Inventor
utilizes that information stored in the drawing template, nor does it honor
original sheet names when creating new ones. The solution MAY be to use
Kent's addin that COPIES the template instead.

Bob I wanted to ask you....Can you turn off that screen that pops up when loading Inventor. I know you want credit for your hard work, But it is slowing my system down (well it was until I unistalled it). When doing a migration with rebuid all selected I am pretty sure it was boggin it down having to load that screen up, and count down every time a file opened and closed.

Troy,

It's probably going to be awhile before I can get out an updated version.
My design workload has been pretty overwhelming lately, with no letup
in site. I would highly recomend disabling most addins while running the
migration tasks (probably any other scheduled tasks too). You don't have
to uninstall them from the system, just turn them off using the addin manager.

The original idea was that a licensed version (i.e. paid $$$$) would get
the ability to turn that splash screen off, among other things.

Try using kents Kwikfile add in...Saving a file as a template seems to have
always caused loss of certain parts of the idw. Judging by an autodesk post
a few days ago, Autodesk are looking into using the Kent Keller way to
handle templates for a future release.

I would hope not. ;~) I am guessing they are looking into just making it so
what is set in a template comes through just like titleblocks and borders
currently do. Mine just opens the template and forces you to do a saveas,
then opens the newly saved file for you.

Yes, you are right of course Kent,
I read it again, and it sounded different on the second read.
I thought it was a little strange. :o)

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
As many of you know, there is a current limitation with our
new-from-template workflow: certain placed sheet annotation is discarded on
creation (with the exception of border and titleblock).

(Kent Keller's KWiKFile routine alleviates this very issue)

We are evalutating a change to this workflow where certain placed objects
are not discarded on new from template.

We are looking for customer template files to test this new behavior.

What we're looking for are not just your CURRENT template files, but what
you'd LIKE them to be assuming we don't discard objects such as:

-Text
-Revision Tables
-Placed User-define-symbols

You can send these directly to me at andrew.faix@autodesk.com

Your help is appreciated. Thanks,
