IT Bashing

Okay guys. Earlier today everyone was bashing their IT guy or gal. Well I
apparently have an exception to the rule. My 2 year old PIII 833 Thinkpad's
hardrive was getting noisy and I mentioned it the IT guy. IBM had us run a
diagnostic on it and told us nothing was wrong. My man told me when the
lease expired he would find me something that would honk. Well today I
received it.

Toshiba Satellite 1955 S804
w/1gb of DDR
2.5 ghz P4 w/512L2
and...Nvidia 440 to GO to drive a 16in SXGA

Got everything up and running a couple of hours ago, and it's a real
screamer. Now if I just don't get back problems lugging this thing around:)
No problems so far with IV6sp1.

Oh yea. This things got DVD/RW combo, removable wireless keyboard and came
with an optical mouse. I didn't even realize anything like this was
available.

Cool!

A word of advice with the Geforce 4 Go. Drop down to 16bit color or you'll
really begin to drag IV. In 16bit color mode IV runs good on my Satellite..

They are heavy aren't they. Oh and don't stray far from an outlet. Best
I've gotten is 1.5 hours on power save mode (which declocks the processor)

Yea, you know what? This chip is not a mobile chip either. It has a 400
mhz fs bus. I guess it does have speed stepping though? I have a second
battery on the way. Sounds like I will need it. Haven't had time to
explore any of the power saving modes. It really "feels" good. Not a
ThinkPad, but it seems to be a pretty sound chassis design.

If they are using the same power management system as on mine (and they
probably are) it will automatically go into "detuned" mode when running on
battery power. This REALLY slows down IV but at least you get 1.5 hrs. I
turned it up to full performance once and got 45-50 mins off a battery.
Very scary. I want to find a way to jack into the jet turbines on the plane
to power this sucker..
