IPN Perspective View save as DWG is a mess

Anyone else having this problem?

Just discovered that drawing views created in IV6 (don't think it's related
to Sp1 ) from perspective views from an IPN file do not save as DWG very
well at all.

The resulting DWG viewed in Autocad or MDT is a huge birdsnest mess of
lines, ellipses etc. and very unusable.(see screen shot in CF)

Unfortunately for me, I promised a client I would have them all done by
today- no way.

I'll be glad to Pack n Go the project files if anyone at Autodesk is
interested.

Is there a solution to this I hope???!!!

System IV6 Sp1
Win 2K (latest Sp)

In a pinch: Do a screen capture of the IPN, save as a bitmap then use
the Image command in AutoCAD to bring it in.

The birds nest is ALL the lines visible and hidden in an imprecise view
in Inventor.

Gary,

This is the third time I see this type of post in the NG. I agree it is a
defect (and is sitting in our database as such for a while) . We'll
eventually get around fixing it but it does not have top priority right now.

Any particular reason why you need to deliver it in perspective view (apart
from the fact that perspective view is new to R6 and we always want to use
the new things)?

Would an isometric view not do the job equally well as I am sure an
isometric view exports fine to dwg?

Often our clients want to see their machines in a factory layout setting. We
have been supplying perspective dwgs of plant layouts from Autocad for
years, which our clients love, and as such would really like this feature to
work on IV6.

Just my 2 cents...

I can't believe that Adesk is talking down to paying customers like this!
This response to Gary's post reflects Adesks total disregard for the very
profession and professionals that make their pay check....

My 2 cents worth also..........

All he was saying is that it is a known defect, he has seen multiple posts
about the problem, and decided he should explain that there are things
higher in the priority list. I sure don't see where he deserves this
treatment. I met Bob, and like all the other people working there he has a
lot of interest and concern about customers problems.

If you don't like the software, then fine, but please don't chase off the
Autodesk employees for those of us that are going to stick around.

I wasted a few hours on this also. I just kind of expected it to work. I
created an .IDW of a fairly complicated drawing - it took about 5 minutes to
open, another 5 minutes to create the view, another 5 to go precise, another
5 to export, and a couple of hours to discover that perspectives do not
export to .DWG. Yes, that is the first thing we'll try to use - the new
features (imagine that).
In a nutshell - we expect .IDW exported to .DWG to work perfectly - always!
That is what we paid for! Drawing COMPATIBILITY! That is what autodesk
advertised!

Two hours lost out of a fifty hour work week = 4% loss in productivity
(might be 40 hour work week if the software would just cooperate) . Now
imagine if the software has many more than one problem... what is the loss?

My $0.02 worth.

Isn't it common to list the known defects in the readme, so that wasted time
on troubleshooting a known defect can be avoided? I didn't see this listed
as a known defect. This is not listed in the knowledge base (hot issues)
either. I suspect that there are many known issues that we'll just have to
discover on our own, and work around.

Lucky we have this NG, as it really seems to be the best source of
information.

Kent, I really like the software (before R6) and will continue to use it
(happily) My problem is the finger always pointing back at either the users
computer or their usage of the software. Having the boss ask you why the
program will not do what it's supposed to do then having Adesk say it must
be your system makes a guy upset. Having a reseller that says tough luck
that you have 3 seats of R6 setting unused on the shelf doesn't help either.
If you were in our shoes you might get a little upset too sometimes

Albert, do you perhaps remember a saying your parents may have taught you.

If you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all....? While
it's not always the best advice (there are times to complain) maybe it's
time you tried it a bit.

Personally I'm getting a bit tired of the constant whining.

Well, after hearing that it's a defect I decided to redo the views in
standard ISO - not as attractive though.

It's nice to know whether it's a defect or not even though we all wish
everything was perfect. I encourage Adesk to be frank & upfront about what
isn't working as soon as it's known ( at the risk of marketing problems) but
we have some understanding of when things don't work I know how to make
allowances when we know about it.

Still, I like the progress on the software despite the forced charity work I
am doing owing to the software & on behalf of my clients.

You need to relax. Bob is from Belgium, and English is not his first (and
probably not his second) language. He is one of our best QA engineers, and
he is very dedicated to helping customers. Although he could have stated it
more politely, what he said is basically true. There is a defect logged
against exporting perspective views to DWG. Right now, there are higher
priority defects. It will be fixed, but it might not be in SP2. Also, if
there is a pressing need to fix this, we might have to reprioritize
projects.
