How to detect file relationships

I am using Inventor 2008. When deleting a part from the project, even if that part is not in the assembly, I still cannot open the assembly because it is pointing a link is missing. I cannot detect what is the relationship betwheen the part and the assembly. In design assistant, the part is referenced by another part but I cannot see what is the relationship in order to remove it.

Not sure what you are trying to do.

Did you delete a part from your workspace?

Now you have an assembly trying to load the deleted part.

Open the assembly and delete the part from it.

Did you open the Part that uses it as a reference?

Most likely it's either Derived or Adaptive.

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

It could be in a sketch, did you edit the other part while in the assembly?

You may have projected a line or something in a sketch - you might have been trying to use something from the same part and accidentally picked an edge from a different part.

Is (or was) the part adaptive?

Are you getting a "Resolve Link" dialog? If you are, in the lower left corner it will tell you the file that is referencing the missing file.

It will let you open the iam even though there are missing links.  It just will not dispaly the missing parts.
