I am brand new to Inventor and I am being given the seemingly simple task of finding the tooling files that needs to be checked for correction on account of parts manufactured out of tolerance. The plotted drawings I'm given has text on in that can help me find the files, but the drawings are huge. Is there a way to find text like I've been doing when given the similar task in Autocad? I see no edit menu in Inventor.

Welcome to the forums....
Um, what exactly are you searching for? A file, or text within a file?

Welcome to the forum.
Do you have vault?
Any chance any of this text embedded in properties?
I ask because advanced searches can be done within vault.

I'm not seeing any kind of text searching tools in Inventor... what's up with that? Am I missing it? This would seem to be basic functionality, some sort of "find and replace" feature. We do put text notes on drawings after all.

As far as I know there is not functionality that allows Inventor to search for key words or any words on drawings within notes. Like I said in my first posting, if Vault is involved there are more search functions in that as long as properties are used with values.

This link should help describe what Vault is.

Inventor is completely seperate from Autocad. While they are both owned by Autodesk one is 2D and the other is 3D. Yes, there is Autocad 3D, but that is a very watered down version of what Inventor brings.
Hope this helps.

Hi immunoman,
This functionality is missing, but you can go here and add a kudo to show your support for this idea:
As a work around, what I do for drawings is export the drawing as a PDF file and then use the Find tool in Acrobat Reader to locate the text. I don't run into this need very often, since so much of the information in Inventor files can be linked to some source property or symbol definition where it can be changed, but it would be a nice tool to have from time to time.
Keep in mind that if you're
I hope this helps.

Isn't Inventor supposed to be the latest and greatest AutoCad version.
Hi immunoman,
Autodesk Inventor is a completely separate program than AutoCAD. The two are both CAD applications, and are both owned by Autodesk, but as far as I know, they are maintained and developed by different programming teams.
I hope this helps.

Hi, using Text Finding from http://www.textfinding.com is a good and easy way to search for text in a file. It can fully meet your needs.
Using Inventor, and Autodesk Vault Pro,
How to search CUSTOM PROPERTIES? In vault?
In Vault, Project Explorer, Rt-Click on column headings, Pick Custom View, Pick Fields, Select "ANY" available fields, go to Available Fields....
... and NONE of my Custom Drawing Properties from Inventor are showing??????
HOW do I search my Inventor Custom Drawing Properties in Vault Pro to find specific TEXT?
Sincerely Needy

Hi ODANOH,
I think you have to index/re-index in Vault to have them show up:

Indexing Properties
Re-index File Properties in a Vault
If those links don't help, you might search here:
