Hey AutoDesk, How hard is it to correct the Chamfer Note?

OK, sorry to complain but we're looking at release 2016 coming out in about 8-9 months, tell me AutoDesk, what will it take for your programmers to FINALLY correct the Chamfer callout text?

As it has been since day one and still is today, when one inserts a Chamfer note, the text comes in as "Chamfer".

Please, please educate me and tell me what drafting standard in the world allows lower case lettering, because I sure as Sherlock don't know of any!

Everytime a user inserts a Chamfer note, they have to go back and retype in the CORRECT syntax of "CHAMFER". Really AutoDesk, REALLY?!

Yes I know I can go in and set it to be correct, but for crying out loud, don't you think the default settings should actually be to the STANDARD they claim to be?

If I'm expecting to pay close to $20k per seat and another $2000 per year, how about making the programmers actually use the software and make sure the little things such as this are CORRECT?!

OK, that's my Monday afternoon vent.

FIX IT!!!!!

Or.....

You could change it once in the styles editor and never have to worry about it again.

Hope this is useful!

Hi CelticDesignServices,

Autodesk has made this configurable so that you can change it to fit your needs. Go to the Manage tab > Styles Editor button, then select the Dimension style you wish to change, and then click the Notes and Leaders tab, and then select the Chamfer radio button. You can replace Chamfer with CHAMFER for the standard, so that it will be the default.

Edit: what Rory_M said!

Note too that you can share your ideas about how to improve Inventor with the Development Team using the IdeaStation:
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Inventor-IdeaStation/idb-p/v1232

The IdeaStation might not be as fun as ranting on the main forum, but it's more productive, and less distracting to others. Smiley Wink

I hope this helps.

At our location we have come to the conclusion that some standards are a hold-over from the days of pencil and paper board work drafting - where it was easier to create ALL UPPERCASE lettering that would be legible on blueprint duplication.

We now consider ALL UPPERCASE to be no more appropriate in a drawing, than in a book or newspaper or a user forum.

Guys, again, I know this can be customized/fixed but my point is I shouldn't have to fix something that should be correct in the first place.

Every place I go, I have to be sure to go into Styles and fix the obvious mistake.

I'm just asking that AutoDesk correct a simple issue that has obviously fallen through the cracks to what it is suppose to be as default.

If I select ANSI standards, the dimensions and all other settings should be to actual ANSI standards, should they not?

Same goes for ISO or DIN or JIS, etc. I'm just requesting the programmers to take the five minutes (if that) to fix this error in the code.

Oh and yes, I did post this on the idea station for Inventor, please stop by and give it a kudos in hopes they finally get around to fixing this.

I guess I struck a nerve.

My post for this change in the Ideas section seems to have been purged. No where to be found.

Appearently one is not allowed to point out a error made by the programmers at ADesk?

Hi CelticDesignServices,

I'm not sure why you're not seeing it, but it's still there:

Curtis, I don't know either.

I see it under the "Latest Ideas" heading on the main page, but if I dive into the Inventor list, nothing...not even 10 pages back.

Oh well, it's a Monday and odd things are happening all over the office.

Hi CelticDesignServices,

The IdeaStation is organized with 3 tabs along the top, one of which is called New Ideas, which it sounds like you were able to find.

Additionally, your IdeaStation Idea was labeled "Inventor" by you. And I can confirm that I see your IdeaStation Idea listed under the Inventor label filter as well:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/ideas/v2/ideaexchangepage/blog-id/v1232/label-name/inventor/tab/most-r...

I do not see your IdeaStation Idea listed under the Inventor Tag filter, as no one has yet to "tag" it:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/tag/inventor/tg-p/board-id/v1232

So maybe you were looking under the Inventor tag filter and not seeing it show up.

In any case, as far as I know Autodesk does not remove IdeaStation Ideas unless they violate the forum rules in some way.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Or how about "Pattern Component" about a centre line - without some convoluted "workaround"?

British Standers has TWO option for Chamfer notes, these being "Chamfered" or "Chamfer" in notes and "CHAM" in Abbreviation or Symbol

So it ALL DEPEND on individual country's standards. I do appreciate that in one country , say USA, the above may be wrong but in several others in may be correct or optional as to place the note in either upper, lower or mixed case.
