Help with help/tutorials 64bit Inventor client

Hi,

We're having some problems with the 64bit version of Inventor. The help files are all in Flash, however there currently is not a 64bit plugin for Internet Explorer. We managed to use the 32bit version for general web browsing but Inventor insists on using the 64bit version to try and display the tutorials.

Changing the environment path in Windows itself didn't appear to help. Does anyone know where Inventor looks to launch the default browser? Or has someone managed to successfully set the 32 bit version of IE as the system default?

TIA

Funny, I'm running Flash on xp64 SP2 and Vista.. No problems. Are you on
Vista 64 SP1?

The help files are compiled HTML (chm) and are available in the Help
folder of Inventor. have you tried opening one of them individually?

Woops, should have clarified. XP Pro 64bit, not Vista 64.

When the files are launched the user is prompted to download the Flash plug-in, which fails at the Adobe help page re: 64bit support. The 32 bit version of IE 8 works fine with Flash sites. We just can't figure out how to launch IE 8 32 instead of IE 8 64 from the chm files.

This is 2010 if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Uninstall IE 8 64 bit and see if that fixes it. You may have to
reinstall Flash 10.

Re: Help with help/tutorials 64bit Inventor 2011 client Windows 7 x64 Pro

02-16-2011 12:33 PM in reply to: techsupport7652

I have the same problems that other user have with 64 the flash player. Windows 7 x64 Pro with Inventor 2011 64 bit installed. I have tried everything on the page including the 64 bit flash player, uninstalling and reinstalling the flash player, disabling Windows Internet Exploder 8, using another browser etc but to no avial.  Whenever I lauch the help file which includes a topic with flash animation in them I get the "do you want the following program to make changes to your computer" Adobe Flash Player message poping up several times and whether I answer yes or no repeatedly  the animations are blank and do not play.  When I go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ the flash player test shows that version 10.2.182.26 is installed correctly and working.  Flash player works on all the other programs I use except for Inventor 2011.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

As a test, I took ownership of the iexplore.exe file in the 64-bit folder and renamed it.  Then I replaced it with the iexplore.exe from the 32-bit directory.  Now when the 64-bit version tries to get launched, it launches the 32-bit executable instead.  Works like a charm.  Who needs 64-bit IE anyway?  Not me.
