Help Making Lines in an Object

So I have a student who wants to put these lines in the object.  Since it would be very difficult to make these lines enclosed and looking right is there anyway to put these lines in the object.  I don't understand why Emboss works on letters but not lines.  That is all letters are.

You will probably want to use Split (face)

or

3D sketch and Project to the face.

Text is closed profiles, not single line entities.

Attach your *.ipt file here if you can't figure it out.

If you indicate your Inventor version or post a file - I can show you easy solution.

It causes confusion when you double post.

Okay I tried those and I am sure I am doing something incorrect so I have included a video of me doing this.  If you have a suggestion after watching this that would be great.

The only thing I am interested in is what version of Inventor you are using.

I can show you several different techniques once I know the version.

When you do a Split you need to turn on Shaded with Edges visual style.

If you really want an engraving - you will need a closed area profile

or

Extrude the curves as surfaces and then Thicken with the Cut option.

Okay well the split face just made the lines be seen but did not seem like they were into the surface.  How do you thicken the lines with the surface output extrusion option?

Attach your *.ipt file here.

You don't thicken lines, you Thicken surface or about half a dozen other techniques depending on actual geometry.

Just change the lines to closed profiles and extrude (cut option).. or emboss..

That should take no more than 1-2 minutes max to do that..
