The reason I'm asking this: I'm doing a sketch upon a image and that button is most time to close to my "anker point" so it's hard to follow the line of that image.
My guess is that you are trying to add too many nodes to your spline (the best spline is only two nodes).
Maybe try creating a simple spline and then add nodes as needed.
