From ipt to dxf?

First of all hello everyone Smiley Wink

I'm new to inventor, used it to design a computer case of my own, so now that I got all of my parts in ipt I need to convert them to dxf in 1:1 scale.

What is the easiest way to do that? I found some info here http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Convert-an-ipt-drawing-to-a-dwg-or-dxf-using-Invento... but in the Environments tab I don't have any ''AEC Exchange''.

Oh and another thing, after sketching all my parts I ''deleted'' the dimensions from the view, so is there any way I can make them show up in that dxf because I will have to send the dxf's to someone who will laser cut the parts, so dimensions have to be shown of course, or do I have to add them one by one?

Thank You Smiley Happy

Hi,

If you use Inventor2011, please go to Environments tab, click Add-Ins button to invoke Add-In manager dialog box, then check if AEC Exchange is loaded or not, see attached image.

You can create a inventor drawing file then create views for your part, add dimensions, then you can save copy as it with DXF file format.

Hope it helps a bit.

Kevin Li

Hi Kevin,

thank You for your response, well it seems I'm missing some add-ins stuff (check attachment) and that add-on is missing

Well I guess there's no other way but create a drawing, put the views I want and then extract it to dxf right?

If you made ipt with the intention of having them lasercut, you can simply right click on the face of the ipt and select export face as..

This will produce a 1:1 scale dxf with only the face contours in it. DXF's for laser cutting should have no more information or dimensions in them, only the contour.

You should fix your install so the AEC Exchange is loaded.

@guido

omg thx works like a charm Smiley Wink

@JdMather

thx I'll do that so I can try that way as well, btw by ''fix your install'' you mean I should try running the setup again and then it gives me some option to ''repair'' or similar or a complete reinstall? I suppose the first option?

Mauro

I don't know what you did that the Add-ins isn't fully populated.

Did you have anti-virus and UAC turned off during install?
I would first try a Repair Install (right click in Control Panel).

Don't try anything drastic (like uninstall) untill all other options exhausted.

If you do end up uninstall/reinstall search Google for Autodesk Clean Uninstall instructions.

Yes it's strange, I don't remember selecting/choosing which options/add-ons to install or not.anyway I'll try it right now and edit this message afterwards

Oh btw my antivirus software(avira security suite) wasn't turned off(didn't know it's advisable to turn it off during install) and my UAC is always turned off

AEC is not available on either of my installs of 2012 Premium.

Is it on your 2012 Ultimate, JD?

Looking at your screen capture, you are using 2012. AEC Exchange was renamed to BIM Exchange in 2012 and it is listed in your add-ins and the Environments tab.
