Friday Pictures 8-8-2014

The lab excersize it to experiment with different forces at different heights and friction values to see if the DS result cooresponds to our hand calculations.

(if you look closely at the side of the box - there are Workpoints were we move the force up until the box tips)

(similar for the ladder)

Nice!

Did you find a good convergence between theoretical and ds in this case?

Spot on.

Funny thing is, historically this was a classical hand calculation STATICS class - no software, no motion.  It was disliked by all who had to take it.  Then I was assigned to teach the class.  Oh, boy am I in trouble.

Now doesn't that sound like fun?  Calculate when a box will slide or tip over, but what does the "answer" number mean?  Nothing, just an abstract number the student hopes they got the same number as the instructor.

But let's apply this stuff, and suddenly it becomes fun.  A game!

May I audit the truss analysis portion of the class?  Smiley Wink

I have a design I need to review later this fall and its been a few years...

Open Chrome browser.

Log in with your gmail or other Google account.

Click on Apps in upper left corner (you might have to open a New Tab).

Search the Apps Store for Autodesk ForceEffect.  (FREE)

Great little app!

We have used that a few times on ipad for quick 2d solutions. I did not know that you can install it on a desktop.

I actually have an ideastation request to add that solver to the Inventor drawing environment.  Dynamic Simulation is great, but sometimes I just want to free body diagram that is linked to my geometry.

Use it alot, have it on my iPhone as well as iPad. It's helped me out many times when I'm out on the floor or at a customers site.

Late submittal since I was out of the office on Friday.

Some 30-06 ammunition and enbloc clips for my Springfield M1 Garand.

One of these days when I have some "free" time, I'm going to model the entire rifle.
