Flatten Failure of Sheet Metal Spiral

Hi,

Can anyone let me out of my misery please and advise me why this spiral will not flatten properly.

I would be most grateful.

Many thanks,

CJ

At minimum, your cylindric faces (formed by circular arcs) must be tangential to flatten. See attached.

Recommendations:

1-Fully constrain all sketches. In this case, the lack of tangent constraints between arcs in Sketch1 resulted in your inability to generate a flat pattern.

2-Use the simplest combination of sketches and features to get the desired geometry. I accomplished this with a single sketch and countour flange. No sweep required.

Hi Alewer,

As you can see I am new to sheet metal parts and I am making standard parts and then trying to convert afterwards.

Your simple solution is not only BRILLIANT but I would never have arrived at it on my own; so a big, big thank you!

Once again, just BRILLIANT! And thank you so much for taking the trouble to model it for me.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am.

CJ
