File won't close

Here is an interesting one. In R9 we close an assembly. It prompts us to
save the file. We save Yes. It saves but does not close. You can do this
as many times as you want but the file will not close.

If you say NO the files closes. (We all held our breath as we reopened it
to find that it really did save those other times).

Not a huge deal but we are seeing it on one machine in particular.

I have had that happen with a couple of assemblies in R10

This is true when there is nothing to save and the Save dialog shows
No for that file. When you click that No to change it to Yes it will
close the file.

Oh Sean you don't know how much better I feel now.....I thought I was the
only one seeing this and I was so afraid of being burned at the stake for
saying so that I didn't.

No more counseling sessions....yea!

Sean,
I had created a thread on this some time ago, with only 1 or 2 supporting
comments.
It happened 80% of the time with 2 workstations on IV9 here. IV10 seems ok.
I simply got used to clicking yes the first time and no the second, with no
problems.

Didn't see it on my machines in Houston, saw it on R9 here at work, got a new machine at work and I don't see it any more. Didn't see it on my M70 on R9 and don't see it on R10 now.

Sean and Albert,

We are interested in acquiring your datasets so we can diagnose this issue.
Would you be willing to post them to autodesk.inventor.customer-files or
send them to our FTP site?

Also, if you know of a particular sequence of steps that causes the issue to
arise, that list would be very helpful in our investigation.

Thank you for your help,

I can post the dataset but it's not really reproducible. Happens on various
models or assemblies.

- open an assembly
- modify a referenced component, do not update the assembly
- close the assembly, IV will ask whether to save or not
- click yes
- in the save dialog the default for saving the assembly will be "No"
- click OK
- IV will save the modified component and not close the assembly

or:
- open an assembly referencing a library component that needs to
update while opening (that is the case with most of my assemblies
that use library iParts)
- save the assembly, the library parts will not be saved by default
- close the assembly
- click Yes when asked to save
- click OK
- IV does not close the assembly

In short, IV does not close a file when in the Save dialog the Save
option for that file was set to "No".

This behavior was introduced with IV9.

All,

Out of curiosity, do you see different behavior when you change the Tools >
Options > Assembly > Defer Update setting?

Matthias, I have forwarded your sequences on to the developers who are
investigating this issue.

Thank you for your help.

With me it's only after lots of in assembly editing and open/closing lots of
files. No particular pattern I can see.

Sean,

So you actually lost work because of this. I have just gotten used to the Yes the first time and No the second but do not think that I have actually ever lost any work.

If you don't mind and/or remember what was you exiting sequence when you lost the work?

Let me clarify that we are not getting the dialogue that lists the
individual files asking on each one if we should save (YES or NO) each one.
This is the general.."Do you want to save THIS file" dialogue. Just like
the one you'd get in Word or Excel if you try to close a file that has been
edited.

It sure appears to be the case. My business partner was working on this
project. he and I both have been using IV since R1 so we know to save every
20 seconds . Towards the end of the day he called me over to show me the
problem again. We clicked Yes several times trying to close the file. So
we finally clicked No. We then went to reopen the file and parts were
missing (modified parts were correctly shown but the positions of the parts
in the file were wrong). We then checked the time stamp of the file and it
was several hours old.

I know for a fact he saved the assy at least once between then as I saved it
after I made a small modification on his machine.

This AM the assy seems to be saving fine.

Really weird... (and you're up too early.. )

Thanks

But why am I up to early?

Work starts at 7:30 am here on the east coast and it is 10 of 8 now.

But I do agree I rather be back home in bed.
