Extend loft to third plane

I have a loft created from 2 sections. I need to extend the loft to a third plane. I do not know the shape at that third plane therfore I cannot create that section. Is there any way to project the loft to a third plane keeping the same angles created in the original loft?

Thanks

(Did I read somewhere that v10 can extend surfaces?)

It might be easier for someone to offer some relevant suggestions seeing
the shape of what you have so far and how far you are trying to go.

This is a tough one. I think you are looking for something like Loft To
Face. Unfortunately, Inventor does not support it yet. The only workaround I
can think of is roll back to before loft is created, add a new sketch on the
third plane, edit the loft, and add the new section to the loft.

The problem I have is I do not know the shape at that plane. I have created some 3d lines from the bottom section to the middel section. If I could extend the 3d lines to my new work plane, this would give me some points to work with. Is it possible to extend 3d lines to a plane?

Thanks

(Guess extensions are out...)

Create work axes thru the end points and create work points where the axes
intersect the next section plane. (Try clicking the line and extension
plane to create a point. Don't remember if IV will do an inferred
intersection or not.)

Andrew,

Can you post what you have so far?

Andrew,

Do you mind sending me the part at johnsonDOTshiueATautodeskDOTcom? I would
like to take a look at the model and see if there is any way to make it
work.
Thanks!

If you want to keep the same angles, your 3rd section will have to be very similar to the 2nd section.

Without dataset it is difficult but one other modeling technique that we might use is: if you can't make it the precise size, make the feature longer than what you want and either terminate it or use Split to trim the extra length.

1. If I can assume that the second section is a plane, then do a new sketch by projecting the edges of the second section. Project cut edges might also come of use but I'm not entirely sure if this will work for you.
2. Sketch a 2D/3D path depending on what you want. Make sure the path is longer than where you want to terminate the loft. Sweep the sketch in Step 1 with this path.
3.Position a workplane at the 3rd section. I'm assuming you know the position of the workplane where the loft should end.
4. Use the split tool and throw away one side of the loft

Thanks for all your suggestions. I was able to create what I needed. I used points on the first two sections and ran 3d lines between these points. I then created 3d lines from the end points of these lines and made them parallel to the original lines, made those endpoints coincident with my new work plane and then had points to create my shape on the third work plane. These 3d lines also helped as rails for the loft. Once again thanks for responding.
