Dual monitors in Inv7

Are any of you using dual monitors with Inventor? My PC has PNY 750 XGL (W2KPro sp4, P4-2.4, 1.5Gb DDR, nVidia 6.13.10.4072, fully green by Inv7 diags) and an ancient Hitachi 21" Superscan Pro 800. This card has one VGA and one DVI output. The Hitachi is acting up, so I better think about a replacement soon....

My idea us to replace it with two identical 19" flats. Some of these have two inputs, one VGA and one DVI. I could then use one output to each. I think that all of the menus and toolbars can be moved to the left display, leaving the full right one for the whole model. I think this would actually give me a larger model area than what is left over on my single 21" tube.

Better yet, I could use a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) switch on one of the screens to also look at my server.

My questions:
1. How do you configure Inv7 (or 8 next week!) to do this?
2. Would you KVM switch the VGA side or the DVI side?
3. Are there different KVMs for VGA vs. DVI (not just different connectors, but different circuits)?
4. Are there different grades of KVMs that offer less degradation of the image at higher resolutions?
5. Might I be better off changing to a 950 XGL that has two DVI outputs?
6. Any alternative suggestions?

TIA,

I agree that having two 19" will give you way more
desktop space than one 21" tube did.

As far as the KVM stuff, I am not sure, someone
else will have to answer that one, but from what I do know the VGA side should
work with most KVM switches.

IV7 can't really be configured for dual monitors
but the way I have it is that my primary display has the main work space, the
Browser Bar is off on the second screen, and the panel bar is off on the right
side of the main screen (vertical orientation).  I wish there was a way to
park it in on the standard bar, but it doesn't like that.

Currently I use a 19" and an old 21" (both tubes)
with
a Quadro4 900 XGL running 41.03 NVIDIA
driver (better handles primary and secondary displays then other drivers I
tried).

Hope any of this helps,

VR

I;m not sure about your question, but mine is I have a video card with VGA and DVI, id split screen (dual monitors)as simple as just pluging in a second monitor?

I have three users using the 750 with
Dual 21" CRT and one using the 900 with two 21" CRT.  They had to give up a
lot of desk space, but it has worked just fine for them.  As far as the VGA
vs. DVI I have wrestled with that for a while, I actually have three machines
that at my desk and may be on any on of them at any time.  If I convert to
dual screen I would have to use the VGA connector since all of our KVM switches
are VGA.  To monitor servers we frequently use Remote Desktop.  We
have XP on the desktop and Win2k servers.  It is a beautiful
thing.

I have not yet seen any DVI KVM switches, but I am
sure you could find one if you looked.

Ken,

Although I can't comment on the KVM switch
questions I can tell you I am really happy using my 21" & 19" Hitachi
tube monitors with a Quadro4 750 card.

You will just move your windows & menus around
to suit since IV has no specific settings for dual monitors that I know of (
I don't think it needs to). there are other programs to help you with that
such as UltraMon

Here's a few links I think help you:

I have been using dual 21 with a Gforce 4500ti and
it works great with Inv. Browser Panel on Right screen all other on Left screen.
Allows for WinExplorer to run on right side of browser on right screen. I build
aircraft airconditioning components. A lot of fillets, Sweeps , Extrudes and
Lofts with a bunch of curvature. The Gforce 4600 does not out perform the Quadro
but does a good job for what it is. I am currently upgrading to the FX 1000
with is now one of the big brothers to Quadro. I trust this card will outperform
my quadro but the layout will remain the same on my dual setup.
