Dual dimension display

Hello everybody,

Has any one figured out a way to show dual dimensions

as shown on the right rather than the one which we get on the left

Doesn't this setting do what you are looking for if you RC on the dimension and edit the dimension style?

Worked for me.

Thought I would throw it out there.  I cannot open your parts because I am still on 2012.

Hopefully someone will give you what you are looking for.

So are you lookinf for the dimension line to split the dual dimension?

And you are not looking for something like this?

There you go

The dimension line should split the dual dimension.

Why ? As we have some drawings going out thru Autocad and some thru Inventor

Autocad can do that easily but I did not find that option in Inventor

Thanks

In that case I think that was your best option in placing an enhandement request in.

Sorry I couldn't find another way.  Unless there is an ilogic method of doing this.

Ilogic method, might not work. As to do what is desired with what

Inventor has to offer as of now thru ilogic. I think we will have to use text override

But that does not serve the purpose of drawing to update automatically

in case of any changes in model dimensions.

This is my take over it

What makes this exceedingly annoying is the fact that everything else from Autodesk has ALWAYS done dual dimensions as one on top of the line and one below the line. PLUS the fact that the dimension dialog box shows it the correct way with the correct tooltip (one over the line one under the line) and has for many versions, yet still does not do what it's supposed to do.

I managed to do this, I've attached both a screen shot and the style file. The setting are in Paul Mason.styxml, this a win zip file THESE ARE FOR INVENTOR 2012, they were originally created 15th Nov 2010, for Inventor 2010, and so far have imported OK into successive versions hopefully they will import in to 2013, if that's what your using.

The style that the duel dims as per your request is Paul Mason, the screen shot is "Alternate Inch [mm]" in the drop down list in that annotations. There is also Alternate mm [inch], Duel mm, inch, and a few others that I use.

Be free to use them for your self and/alter them to sute your needs.

Hope this is of some help.

Close, but no cigar as they say - it does put one line on top and the other line below the dimension line, but it still breaks the dimension line where the text is.

The 'trick' to get close is to:

Set the dimension style to place BOTH items, stacked, above the dimension line (which is, uh, the opposite of what we're trying to do) and then set the TEXT STYLE to place it's text in the middle - vertically. This will result in one line above the dimension line and one below it, but it still breaks the text at the line.

This HAS to be an easy fix in code, it's just being flatly ignored for years. If it's a hard issue, take it out of the dimension style box as you're implying it is possible when it is not.
