Diameter Dimension in Detail View

Is there a way to dimension a diameter in a section view. The only thing I can do it is to make a detail view big put centerline bisector, use it to put linear diameter dim, then make the view smaller and hide the bisector. That gives me an error message every time I work with my views.See attachment. Any ideas?

Hi,

What's your inventor version?
Does this is what you want?
See the jpg file .
there are many ways to add diameter dimension in section view and detail view. You get the error message for that when you make your detail view smaller, the centerlie bisector symbol lost its point of attachement.

In your case, you just need to make the detail view a little big to enough to show at least two mid points. Then create a center line (not the centerline disector) with the two mid points. At last, you can create the dimension.
Hope this is what you want.

Thanks,
Sally

Not neccesarily.

In a Detail View where the CL is not available, if the CL is a WorkFeature,
it can be included through the Browser to be made visible and diametral dims
can then be created.

The beauty of using this method is that the CL can then be made invisible
and the diametral dims will stay attached.

The CL as work feature (from the part) worked great. It's simple and I don't need to create extra sketches. Thanks a lot

This Centerline WorkFeature sounds like exactly what I need. Now how does one do that?

Hi! If I understood the request correctly, you will need to create the workaxis in the part. Then include the workaxis in the drawing for documentation purpose. Please feel free to share an example here so forum experts can guide you through the process if you cannot figure it out.

Many thanks!
