DWG/DXF export

Hi, I often have to export my idw to dwg/dxf. I want to exprot them including header and titel and all that stuff thats in the idw. If I do so a DWG/DXF is made where all the drawing is in the layout sheet. My suppliers often have software (CAM/non Autodesk) which does not support the layout sheet and so they have the problem to see the drawing. My way now is to exprot dwg and then to open AutoCad and copy everything from the layout to the model space. Is there a direct way to to that? ( Including titelblock/ dimensions etc.) Many thanks

Go to the options when saving as dwg and pick model
space only. This will export the geometry only which should be fine for CAM
software.

I send my shops the PDF and the Model only geometry via DXF.
Try it, you'll like it.

There's a routine at mymcad.com that converts everything in paperspace to model space. I use this all the time for doing what you do. The conversion from Inventor to autocad still leaves much to be desired, but that's another story.

What are you using to generate the PDF files? Adobe is a bit pricey. I know
that there is
other software available now to create PDF files.

TIA !

Mark:

I'll admit my lack of experience with dwf, but I like pdf because it
works with a most software. With Adobe Acrobat I can print to pdf using
IV, Access, Word and so on. I can then provide my clients with a file
bundling documents from a variety of sources.

I've also found that if I ask clients if they'll accept pdf, the answer
is "Sure, no problem". A similar question regarding dwf elicits the
response "What's that?". pdf is the path of least resistance so I use it.

DWF is so obscure though, who in the heck would ever come up with a dwf virus - LOL. Sean, you gotta give me credit on this one, I came up with a favorable reason to use dwf.

Are we going to see a new tutorial on your site, how to write a virus? LOL

I forgot, Autodesk already has a boot sector virus they spread. Its called SafeCast.

I can see your point. Although we don't use dwf files very much, I
understand that the new version of dwf will allow you to bundle multiple
file formats into one file and you will be able to print to dwf from any
application. There is, or soon will be, a windows printer driver for the
dwf format.

Good luck in your quest.

Mark:

Accepting other applications will be great.

I understand there is or will soon be marking up capabilities in the dwf
viewers. That's a benefit I can sell my clients on so maybe I should
review this farther.
