Create a part (.ipt) using Structural Shape ?

Using Inventor 11 I wish to create some individual parts using Structural Shapes from the Content Center as the basis for my sketch profile and extrude to length before doing other machining.

Is it possible to do this from the Part environment directly and not use the frame generator?

Thanks

Paul

You do not have to be in Frame Generator, but you do have to be in an assembly to Place from Content Center.

You can save the part locally and delete the assembly.

I created a beam from Content Center (selected Custom) and stored it on my drive.  When I loaded them into an assembly, the BOM generated a quanity of total inches instead of # of parts.  What gives?

Open up your beam, go into the Document Settings, On the Bill of Materials tab change the base quantity to Each.
