Copying using Design Assistant

I'm unclear how to copy an IAM & several parts to another folder (I created
a new project folder for them) using DA without messing up the original
file structure. I'd like to change the new IAM file name & only several of
the parts that are not common to the original (Stand alone environment, no
network).

Can someone walk me through the steps? Thanks

No need to make a new project file unless you need or want it that way. If there are no drawings (idw files) of the assembly open the assembly in DA. You must do this through windows explorer or you will not be able to use the manager portion of DA. After it opens up in the action column right click on the top file, and select copy. Now right click in the name column of the first line and select change name. Enter the new name in the dialog box and select open. Now select the files you want to copy in the same manner and repeat the steps. You can select multiple files in the action column if you have several to change. Once all your changes are made select the save icon and if you dont crash it whould say changes saved select button and it reopens the file. Good luck.

I've read that you can't use DA Manage mode several
times now when opening in Inventor. I never use Windows Explorer, I always go
thru Inventor & have never had a problem. (Except with the way DA is
designed, what were they thinking?)

I have used this method (DA, copy, rename, open copy and rename item in browser because DA does not do it for you), but when I try to make model changes to the copy, it makes the changes to the original as well.

What am I missing?

Okay, after poking around a bit I found that I have misstated my problem.  After making a copy of the original part an occurence of it in an assembly created before the copy action changed from the original part to the copy.  Why would it do this and how do I control it?

Okay, I figured it out.  It was my error due to lack of experience with DA.
