Copy or exporting a material that is not in Style Library.

I can’t figure out how to copy a material (outside style library) from one part to another. Or how to do it with exporting and importing the material through a styxml file.

You will have to have READ-WRITE for styles enabled in your project file to do this.

In the part that has the material style you want to copy, SAVE the style to the style library.

Open the part that you want to apply that material to, and UPDATE the styles.

This should bring in the material style you saved previously.

Thanks for your replay.

I had hoped it was a solution without saving to Style Library as it was in previous releases before Inventor 2013.

It entirely depends what version of Inventor you are using (always include this information in your first post!).  2012 and before is one answer, 2013 is a completely different answer.

Yes, sorry that I forgot. I use Inventor 2013.

OK, simplest way I know of is to open the material browser and copy the material to the Favorites "library", then copy from Favorites to your new file.  The Favorites is technically a library, but it's not meant to be shared with other users, and as far as I know, you can't configure it to be anywhere else than in your Windows user profile.

The styxml method worked for Colors and Materials in 2012 and earlier versions, but not in 2013 with the change to Appearance and Material libraries separate from the Styles library.
