Content center - replicating / modifying / replacing current families

Hi,

I'm currently in the position of needing to rationalise / recreate our custom Content Center - with the aim of cutting down the amount of user options and modifying / adding custom properties that will aid with the use of our ERP system.

Problem is:

- We currently have multiple custom fastener families based on ANSI/ISO standards which I need to copy or recreate from the standards

- I was hoping to set up an entire new custom library so I could start from scratch in effect, without modifying the current data, as it will still be used in legacy projects

- On attempting to do this I've run into the situation of having two families in seperate libraries referencing the same base ANSI/ISO standard

- In testing, only one family option shows up in the "Place content centre part" dialogue (seems to be randomly either the old part or the new)

Obviously I want both families to show up (the new versions will have different names, folder & file name). Does anyone have any experience or advice in this situation?

Since CC (Content Center) consist of two parts you need to address those and what you want to achieve. You can create a new data library of components (idcl or mdf) files. This is where the data is and what you may or will be editing. This shouldn’t be a problem as you can rename and keep the new library separate from the old one and still have it available.

The issue really resides in where you want to keep the components once there created. This is controlled by the application options, files, Default Content Center files or the project file in the folder options, Content Center files. Please remember that the project file overrides the application options. Since I don’t know the nature of the changes I can’t recommend one possibility over another.

One option for you to look at and to eliminate all the confusion would be to modify and create your own custom library data file (which you may have already done). Then add the data you need to it and publish it to the existing CC then in the project file make only that CC data library available.

As for existing project you can update those when needed and the components would be the same but by using the Refresh Standard Components command it would include the new data added to the library.

If are looking to keep the components separate once created that is where the issue becomes one of work flow and what you truly need vs what you want. As all the CC components are placed in a common directory.
