Concrete Question again

I have a question about concrete curing time. I have a block of concrete 8'
wide x 8' x wide x 10' deep, How long does it take for it to cure. I have
two opinions and both are from engineers. 8 days from one to 21-28 days says
the other. I have a very large structure 35' tall single pole sticking out
of the concrete vertically. Can someone give me a third opinion? Thanks

Talk to your concrete supplier. There are factors in the mix they use that
will affect your decision.

Answer to my own question, 7 days the concrete should be at its compressive
strength or 90% of max. It is tested at 7 days and 28 days and if the test
shows less than the recommended strength for that type of concrete, then it
should be redone. Hope we don't have that problem! That's a lot of concrete
to tear out.

10' deep, Sounds like a Jimmy Hoffa deal! ;^)

I know they use different agents to affect the curing time based on climate
and available water, other than that, I know it's got rocks and cement in it
and it's easy to model.

Well ... 'less you're trying to model a cement bust of Jimmy Hoffa, maybe.

The supplied concrete should reach it specified strength by 28 days. The supplier will have test cubes, so you could crush some a bit earlier, say at 14 days and at 21 days. This is the only legal way to know what the strength is. You could also use a rebound hammer or Schmidt hammer. This is an instrument that measures the E-modulus or hardness and outputs a cube strength value. Any concrete lab should have one.
In my experience if the weather is warm and the supplier delivers concrete that is a bit above spec to cover himself, you should reach full strength well before 28 days.

regards, Frans X Liebenberg.
