Composite to Solid

I know there are many posts on converting a composite or surface feature to a solid, but I just cant seem to get it to work with this one. I am fairly new to this, so I could use a little help.

Is there a reason you need a solid?

Many surfaces missing. You could separate the various parts into Groups in the Construction Environment and fix up each one.

I'm not sure how much effort it is worth though.

JD,

Could you please post the solid model so I can insert this into my assembly.

I just may leave it as is.

Thanks,

Why do you need a solid?

I guess I dont need a solid. I was using this more to try and learn some of the features of Inventor. Are there problems stitching this up?

Fixing this assembly involves several hours work.
Copy to the Construction Environment and delete the original.
Create a Group for each part.
Change selection filter to Feature Priority.
Move each part to individual group and turn off visibility of group.
Work on each part one-by one to get solid.
or
use to rebuild from scratch (furtunately none of the parts is particularly complicated).

There are a couple of other shortcut tricks depending on what you really need.

All I need at this point is this to resemble a solid. Once I have what I am constructing completed, I would like to have this winch appear to be winding cable on to its drum.

You can RMB on the composite part (surfaces) and turn off Translucent.
You can RMB and change to any color you want.
if
you open as construction group mapping you can change color of the individual parts.
It will look like a solid model even though still surfaces.

Is there any way to remove the yellow edges without affecting other parts in an assembly? I would like to display edges on those parts, but not the yellow ones.

Thanks,

If you don't want to take the time to fix up and stitch the parts you could Thicken (towards the inside) each of the surfaces to solid and turn off the visibility of the surfaces. Have fun.
