Color Blindness

I would be curious to know how many of you have difficulty differentiating
between colors.

I do. Depends on what colors.

I'm not, but I do know a few CAD users that are. As Mike said, it depends
on what colors.

A friend of mine (a CAD user) is and can't see red, green and a few others.
Makes driving with him a little scary when he asks you what color a traffic
signal is. He's gotten around this in AutoCAD, by using colors that he can
see as well as memorizing the numbers for the colors and changing his
background color. I don't know what he does in the 3D program he uses.

I have trouble between greens and blues. Always have. My wife dresses me
every day.

For some reason, I can hardly see the little .... green dotted lines
that tell you when you're cursor is colinear with a point. Do I
otherwise have trouble differentiating colors? no.

I know of two others on the NG that are color blind to some extent.

I don't, but the guy who took over my workstation at my last job did. My
sketch lines at some point got changed to dark blue for unconstrained, and
black for constrained. I'm not even sure how, but I could see them fine. I
got a call the other day; 'how do I change these lines to something I can
tell apart?' I sent him Patrick's awesome color scheme organizer.

That's the standard "presentation" scheme. Heck I can't even tell those two
apart...

I'm not color blind, but I do have a lot of difficulty sorting out the
dotted trails and such. My eyesight just aint what it used to be. Any
thing the iTeam could do that would allow users to customize the line colors
and or styles directly within Inventor would be a welcome addition.

My vision is fine but it often takes far too long to differentiate
between the free yellow and green snapped versions of the little drunken
sketch cursor. Even went as far as hacking the FwRes.dll to add an
AutoSnap yellow square type glyph to the greendot files without success.
It's slow and frustrating sweeping the tiny cursor back and forth
looking for a midpoint clue in the clutter of a busy sketch... -Bill

I have a coworker that is. A new style for color blind people would be
great.

I found that the Sky Color scheme works well, but that all depends on the
type of color blindness etc, I still can't tell the difference between an
Enabled and unEnabled part in an Assy.

O.K. Gary - I AM color blind, so here goes:

I cannot differentiate between blue and purple. I cannot differentiate
between dark green and brown . I cannot differentiate between lime green
and yellow. I cannot (in small densities[wires, resistor bands, dots])
differentiate between red and green. I cannot differentiate between some
greens and grays. I have trouble with ALL pastel colors. I have trouble
differentiating between dark orange and red, and light orange and yellow. I
cannot (in small densities) differentiate between red and brown.

I can see bright, vivid colors well, but it's the shades that get me in
trouble. As long as there is a marked contrast, I can see the colors (but I
can't always tell you what the color is). As others have mentioned, I also
have great difficulty seeing the dotted green line. Darker colors would be
more visible for me. Welcome to MY world!!

I really appreciate your concern. Thanks for asking!!

Maybe in R7, you could differentiate an overridden value in SPLIT BALLOONS
by showing different colors. Or if the value in the bottom is the SHEET
NUMBER from BOM PROPERTIES.

Nearly everybody in Spokane is colorblind. It is obvious by the fact that when a traffic light turns from green to yellow to red nobody slows down they just keep going through the intersection until other cars start blocking their way. Hope this is helpful information for you.

Nice to see this issue addressed. Oftentimes certain shades of red and green look identical to me. Also, green and yellow (as seen in Autocad) are identical to me.

When colors are used to differentiate different states (contrained vs. unconstrained, etc.), it might be a good practice to choose complimentary colors. Example, yellow vs. blue. Even someone that is very color-blind would be able to tell the difference between those two.
