Coil Feature

My friend and I are having a problem creating a coil to a cylinder to make threads. It is in the help browse if you look up under index, coil features> create coil features > to create threads. We are having problems understanding what it wants us to do. If something could explain it, that would help.

We are using Inventor Pro 8 (if it makes a difference)

The help files can be a bit confusing. I find that it helps when you show the browser bar along with the model. Attached is a picture of how I would go about doing a thread.

It is still confusing even thought it was put into two steps. What do you mean by cross-section?

He means you should draw the shape of the thread on the workplane that goes through the center of the cylinder.
