Hi all,
first post.
So I have 25 years 3d CAD experience. Catia, Alias, Ford PDGS.
I have spent 20 hours on Inventor 2013. Great program. Very intuitive. Have been banging out models easily.
My issue however is a Client has given me sone .stp's and Iges files to work with.
They open fine as a .iam The issue is saving. I have the project folder setup, go to save.
I Get the "do you want to save changes to "XXXXXXXX.iam" and all its dependants.
I select "yes to all"
I get the "Yes" under the "Save" Column for all listed .ipt's
I hit OK.......Autodesk attempts to save.
...Then I get the dialogue box up with ! icons "The system cannot find the path specified" - The database in C:\Users.........\xxxx.ipt could not be saved
Any clues?
Thanks in advance
Dean
Welcome to the forum.
Couple of questions. First, is this directory it is trying to search in your working folder specified in the master project file? If not it should be. Second, do you have administrative rights to your PC?

Hi Scott,
thanks for your reply.
Yes I was saving into the master project file, and I do have admin rights.
Out of interest, I successfully saved the first part in the .iam independantly!

I know when we download parts and import them, Inventor has a tendency to place them in an imported folder. When we check them into the vault it errors, because a normal login (non-administrative) does not have access. This did not sound like your situation.
Sounds like you are slowly working your way through the assembly. Can you call up individual parts from it and save them out that way?
Is there any chance that where ever you got this import from can save it in a different format like Solidworks or Pro-E and you can call them up directly?

Try this -
before opening the STEP or IGES
click on the file name
Select Options
(see attached saving options drop-down)
Hi Scott,
I'm steering clear of Vault for now. Im running standalone, just one seat, so no check in / out worries.
I decided to delete all my project files and set up a fresh one.
Working with a different .stp file has allowed me to "save" - "save all". This then placed in the "imported directory"
So perhaps it was the stp? Who knows.
All good for now.
Thanks for your help again. Really appr.
Cheers
